ABOUT
FLOTILLA 15-02
The
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary (USCG AUX), Flotilla
15-2, is a member of the Fabulous Fifth United States Coast
Guard District, Southern Region and one of the six Flotillas
in Auxiliary Division 15. Our Flotilla business meetings
are held the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at
the Annapolis Coast Guard Station, which is located on Thomas
Point Road, Annapolis.
The
missions of the Auxiliary, and for our Flotilla, are to
promote boating safety; conduct boating and marine environment
related classes; perform non-law enforcement boat and jet
ski safety inspections; perform on-the-water or air operational
safety and security patrols; assist with environmental matters;
operate marine related communication stations; and to supplement
the active duty United Sates Coast Guard in performing their
vital missions. As volunteers, our Auxiliarists devote
their time, talents and energy to support these missions
and in return understand they have contributed a worthwhile
service to the general public and the boating community.
Our
Flotilla is steadily growing in membership and expanding
our mission areas. We have men and women ranging in
age from 18 to 67 with varying degrees of education and
work experience. We utilize member owned and Auxiliary inspected
vessels and aircraft to perform member training, and the
safety and security patrols. The vessels are principally
manned by our members who are qualified as Coxswain's and
Crew persons. The aircraft are piloted by FAA licensed pilot's
who are also qualified as an Auxiliary Aircraft Commander.
The Aircraft Commander is assisted by qualified Air Observers.
If
you are interested in helping with any of the Auxiliary
missions, please visit us at one of our Flotilla meetings
or contact one of our members. Prior boating, vessel or
military experience is not a requirement for membership.
However, all members must be at least 17 years of age and
United States citizens.
If
you are interested in receiving a free non-law enforcement
boat or jet ski safety check, please contact us. This inspection
is a free safety examination and failure in any of the required
Federal or State requirements does not result in a fine
or penalty by the inspector. This is a free service offered
to the public in order to educate fellow boaters the safe
aspects of vessel operations and ownership. Upon passing
the inspection the boat or jet ski is awarded a USCG Auxiliary
Vessel Safety Check (VSC) sticker to proudly display on
the vessel.
